Dawson City Cities & Destinations travel
Dawson City
Miners and dog mushers, historians and festival-goers: Dawson City can get as busy today as it was at the height of the Gold Rush. Once the biggest city north of Seattle and west of Winnipeg, it now hosts the largest music festival north of the 60th parallel.
Still a frontier town, you can stroll down Front Street’s wooden boardwalks, pass by the restored storefronts and step back in time, although the town boasts all of the modern amenities that will make your stay enjoyable.
The brothels, beer halls and casinos of 1898 may be gone, but at Diamond Tooth Gerties Gambling Hall there are still dancing girls and you can ‘win a week’s wages’ or at the gaming tables.
Explore what life was like before the prospectors by experiencing First Nation culture at Dänojà Zho Cultural Centre, ramble through Tombstone Territorial Park in Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in traditional Territory and take a few hours and raft the Klondike River - or trace the route of the stampeders and canoe the Yukon River from Whitehorse to Dawson City. Walk local trails on the longest summer days or sit back in your mukluks to view the Northern Lights on the most electric winter nights.
Stay for a while or use Dawson City as your base for adventure, nowhere else comes close.
